Carry a Cotton Ball!
Carry a small cotton ball in your seat bag. If you have a flat, you can sweep the inside of the tyre with the cotton ball to see if a piece of glass, thorn, or similar hazard is still penetrating the carcass.
If there is something, it will snag a small piece of cotton. This is a much better alternative to a bloody finger in determining if there is something in the tyre that will soon flat your new tube.
