Please note updates to the below message. Rev.2
After checking it will be ok to have 1 or two more on this event but it is capped as a certain number due to leaders to participant numbers.
Essential Item on this Climb:
Below is a recommended basic hillwalking gear list. You do not have to buy all of the below unless you are going to do more in near future, but if possible try to borrow some.
1. One pair of good walking/mountaineering boots. 2. Waterproof clothing- Jacket and Trousers 3. Backpack- carry your lunch and spare clothing 4. Warm Top 5. Warm Hat & Gloves 6. Walking Poles- optional 7. 1 x Flask with hot drink 8. Plenty of water
NB: It is important to point out that denims and cotton teeshirts/sweatshirts are totally unsuitable. We're talking synthetic track suit bottoms, fleeces, running vests, etc. A few spare layers will be necessary too, carried in a plastic bag in the knapsack. And as well as sandwiches snacks like chocolate, cereal bars, dried fruit, energy balls should be carried.
Leaders: The chief leader for the day will be Jerry Murphy. Timmy and Lou will be co-leaders.
Distance: Approx 11km approx.
Route: Jerry's preferred option will be to park at Lislebane and head up O'Shea's Gully, a more spectacular route. And we will return via Heavenly Gates.
Duration: 7-8hrs.
Start Time & Route: We will meet up in Killarney at 8.30am at Garvey's Supervalu and petrol station which is at the Cork side of the town. Here we can grab a takeaway coffee and get a roll made up for lunch for anyone who hasn't brought one from home. We plan to leave here at 8.50am for the 30 minute drive to the Reeks.
On Return to your Car: A towel and a full change of clothes should be left in the cars, including jocks (lous words). It is always best to assume one will get totally soaked and nobody wants wet patches on their car seats. And if the towels are not needed then all the better.
On Conquering The Carrauntoohil: A big dinner in Killarney on the way home will be optional for all.
Extra Details: This event is ruled by the weather.
Participating: Jerry (Leader) Lou (Co leader) Timmy (Co leader) Ger F Deirdre C Dan John Ber Naill K Trish Noel Murph Helen Trevor Honey G Eimear Spare Place
NB About Insurance: While Lou, Tim and Jerry are delighted to help get everyone to the top of Carrantuohill and back safely it is important to note that the Cycling Ireland Insurance will not cover this event. If you wish to have insurance on this event the onus is on each person participating to have insurance if they wish. Please note you are taking part your own risk otherwise.
A big thank you to Lou for all the advise and information..... A even bigger thank you to Jerry, Timmy and Lou for leading us for the day.

The weather doesn’t look promising at the weekend as storm Brian is due to hit Friday and Saturday. Please check the boards later in the week and we will keep you updated on the status of the event.

It is with deep regret we have to cancel this event in light of recent storms and forecasted storms ahead. It would not be safe to venture out onto the hills. As it really is the last window for doing this event we will aim to reschedule early spring next year because of the interest we had for this event.
Looking forward to seeing you on the hills in the new year.
Regards Trevor
