Hi All
John Phelan, the bikefit physio will be at our open night on Monday, showing off his many talents including his new VO2 max and RMR (resting metabolic rate) measuring service. See below a message from John.
Cheers
Niall.
New Service available from The BikeFit Physio:
VO2max and resting metabolic rate testing using gas analysis.
I am teaming up with Catriona Courtney of Elev8 Nutrition with this service. Her one to one nutrition service will be an add-on if anyone is interested. She can use the test results to come up with a more accurate nutrition plan for training and race days.
The VO2Max test or sub-max test will come with a full detailed report displaying your:
- VO2Max score
- Anaerobic threshold
- Training zones eg: fat burning zone, tempo zone, threshold zone, Vo2Max and Anaerobic capacity
- Mechanical efficiency: converting energy from food into movement, the more efficient you are at this, the better your athletic performance. (i.e generating a mechanical power output by utilising less energy will lead to less fatigue and greater ability to perform). For weight loss, the goal is to keep the metabolic efficiency lower.
- Muscle Fiber type breakdown, Type 1 and Type 2
- Fat burning efficiency (this is associated with low probability of weight gain and with increased performance in endurance sport)
This test will follow a standard ramp protocol on the Tacx Neo 2 smart trainer.
Its power accuracy is +/- 1%
The cost of this test is 130Euro.
Happy to offer the members of Carrigdhoun CC 10% off.
Follow up testing will cost 100Euro.
Here is a sample report that will be sent to you within 24hrs after the test.

This test will reveal your basal metabolic rate, ie, the amount of calories needed for basic life-sustaining functions. From this, an accurate calorie intake can be calculated to either maintain weight, gain weight or lose weight. If weight loss is your goal, you will find out how much of your daily calorie expenditure is coming from fats and how much is coming from carbohydrate.
If the ratio is swinging towards carbohydrate being the main source of energy, then both the diet and training should be changed in order to increase the proportion of energy coming from the fat stores.
This RMR test costs 80Euro and a retest at 50Euro.
I am taking bookings now for testing at the Life Fit Studio in upper Ballygarvan.
Please get in touch through email or call/txt 086-2451430
Lastly, 10% off all bike fitting services for Carrigdhoun CC members still stands.

I will be at the Carrigdhoun CC open night on the 10th Feb and I’ll have the PNOE gas analyser with me. Happy to answer any questions from the room.
Many thanks and safe cycling,
John
