This came up last night in conversation during our spin when we stopped to take a few pictures, so I thought I would throw it our for discussion:
We currently post a few photos on the club website gallery, which seems fairly limited in functionality, so I think we should create a Flickr account for the club and post the photos there. This has several advantages over the gallery;
-Firstly Flickr is free for a terabyte of storage, so basically limitless
-Photos can be easily downloaded
-Photos can be made public/private, which might be a great way of advertising the club (as long as Rory isn't in any of them in THAT JERSEY!).
-Anyone can leave comments on any photo
-Organise the photos into event based sets and tag them with dates, names, places etc .so they can be searched through
-Unlike Strava,Facebook or the gallery, photos don't become unavailable after a certain period of time, they are always available. And Facebook don't own them!
-We can link it on the CCC website.
I think if pictures on outings were more readily available, more people would take them in the first place, and we could get some great variety as everybody pretty much has a camera in their phone these days. We might even get some GoPro merchants
This is something a lot of other cycling clubs, and even pro teams do already, so worth checking out.
I use flickr a lot for my own pictures, so I am happy to set this up and manage it if there is any interest.
Please let me know what you all think......
