Hi all Please see below a link to CI’s advice on the current situation with covid-19. It’s not necessary to curtail club activities at present but when you’re out on a group ride please observe higher than normal hygiene practises. No spitting or nose clearing when there are riders behind you (we all do it). It’s the spray that’s the danger. Also at coffee stops be ultra safe and clean up any sweaty patches before you leave. Scary times folks. Be safe, be clean. www.cyclingireland.ie/cycling-news-item/cycling-ireland-update-on-coronavirus-covid-19/27480

Hi All Following on from the above post the latest advice on best practise for group spins would be:
Stick to smaller groups. 4-6 max.
Dispense with the coffee stop.
Act responsibly in all instances.
Get out in the fresh air and de stress.
Ultimately it is up to each individual to decide the best course of action for themselves.
Regards CCC committee.

By now you will all have received an email from CI (if not please see below).... Cycling Ireland have just released a statement advising that Club spins should be cancelled. In line with this direction Carrigdhoun Cycling Club are cancelling all club spins from today up until and including Sunday March 29th. In addition Cycling Ireland are also advising that people cycle individually and not in groups. Please refrain from posting spins on the club boards until after 29th March. We will continue to monitor and keep you all updated. Your health, is your wealth.

Hi all. Sticky bottle is not an official source of health advice on Covid-19 but in this piece it gives a good interpretation of CI’s advice. It’s looking like mid-August at the earliest before we’ll be getting together fully again. And that’s only an estimate depending on how the overall easing of restrictions goes. With the summer weather settling in now it’s great to see solo club members buzzing all over Carrigaline. While out walking the dog you seem to pop up at every junction 😀. Keep fit and stay safe and hopefully we’ll be back on the road together in August. And wash your hands😆 www.stickybottle.com/latest-news/when-will-group-rides-races-sportives-return-we-have-the-likely-dates/

Guys Just wondering after the announcement today and 15 people being able to train outdoors from Monday, is the plan to start club spins sooner than originally planned.?

Guys Just wondering after the announcement today and 15 people being able to train outdoors from Monday, is the plan to start club spins sooner than originally planned.? My understanding is that CI are updating their guidance and hope to publish it on Monday. Unfortunately the feeling seems to be that little will change as 2m social distance still applies, which makes cycling groups impractical. From gov.ie Cultural, sporting and social Groups of up to 15, including trainers and coaches, may return to non-contact outdoor training activity (but not matches) while maintaining social distancing at all times.

We wait patiently for CI to make a call on this.
My own thoughts at present: a group of 15 cyclists riding in single file with two metre gaps is impractical and unsafe in traffic terms. It would have to be smaller groups.

Hi All, Hope you are all keeping safe, healthy, fit and well.
Following on from Claire's post above (CI road map): CI have really left it up to everyone to interpret the government guidelines as they see fit.
After discussion by committee last night we have agreed to issue the following advice to club members.
Group cycling may recommence with the following guidelines:
Group size MUST be limited to a maximum of four cyclists. Group must ride single file. A two metre gap must be maintained between each cyclist. Good Personal hygiene behaviors to be practiced at all times, ie. no spitting, nose blowing etc. Always consider the cyclist behind you!! If you decide to stop for coffee (and cake) please observe social distancing guidelines. 2 metres at present.
I know some members have already formed pods of four and are doing their own thing while others have opted to ride solo for now. If you wish to join up with three others to ride with company just post up and see who else might join you. If more than four arrive for a spin at the same time, please limit the group number to four. I know there are groups out there from other clubs bombing around in tight groups showing total disregard for others, we've all seen them. Please let's not allow the public and other cyclists to put Carrigdhoun CC in that bracket.
We've had a few inquiries by email about beginner (white) spins. Unfortunately we are not in a position to organise beginner spins at the moment. If you are eager to get started don't let that stop you. Just get out there and ride your bike!! Thousands across the country have started cycling for exercise during the Covid Lockdown and hopefully many of these will continue and join cycling clubs in the future.
The main thing is we all stay as safe as we can and enjoy what's left of the summer.
The committee would welcome your opinions on the above so please dont hesitate to comment so we get as broad a feel for this as we can across the whole club.
Safe cycling to all and hope to see you all on the road very soon.
Best regards
Niall.

All medical research has stated the draft can carry up to 6 mtrs behind a cyclist and even further. I would think it would be safer from a covid prospective to cycle side by side maintaining 2mtr social distance where possible and if cycling single file minimum of 6mtrs. Im happy to keep cycling on my own maintaining my social distance from myself. But if I ride with someone itll be side by side maintaining my favourite position 🙂

Been in single file and groups of 4 will also keep the motorist happy. I suppose it will be acceptable to have roll ups as we will be less than the 2 meters apart for only a few seconds? We have to be 10 minutes or more without social distancing to contract the virus? Now we can enjoy cycling as a club during the summer.😎😎

Hi Conor Hold tough a while. We are getting conflicting information from CI and elsewhere and may have to revise our advice given above. I hope to get clarification tomorrow and post tomorrow evening but it looks like we may not now be in a position to organise club spins. More tomorrow.
